My Way of Teaching

Harmony in Mobility & Stability

As a physiotherapist and yoga teacher, my way of teaching yoga asana may be different from other teachers. Some teachers may emphasize on alignment, some teachers may focus on flexibility, some love to challenge your limits and teach inversion and arm balance pose, some may make their class very meditative. For me, I love to combine my understanding on human anatomy and body mechanics into the asana practice. My asana class is more like therapeutic exercise training that help your to gradually build up strength and flexibility of the body for a more healthy and balanced life.

Modern yoga put a lot of emphasis on flexibility. In addition, there’s a tendency for the practitioners pursuing perfection and increasingly challenging poses in their asana practice. However, this orientation of practice is not suitable for every people, especially those people that are sedentary in lifestyle. Traditionally, the asana practice in Hatha Yoga was not to merely make the practitioners flexible, but to create harmony of mobility (flexibility) and stability (strength) in our physical body.  In modern physiotherapy and movement training, it is also believed that both strength and flexibility are important for optimal function and coordination of the human body along with good proprioceptive awareness. If unbalance happens, we are more prone to pain and injury.

In my class, the harmony of our body can be achieved by the focus on the following aspects.

  1. Breathing Exercise

  2. Joints Mobilisation of the whole body

  3. Posture Awareness and Correction

  4. Asana practice & related exercise training - to facilitate balance between Strength & Flexibility

Yoga Asana is suitable for everyone & every body, and not limited to those flexible ones.

Everyone is unique and every body is different.

Understand our own body.

Train & Exercise accordingly.

Practice Asana in a safe manner.

Your health & wellness is in your own hands.
